Pointing

Welcome back — we remembered you from this browser and picked up right where you left off.

How it works

Pointing pair or triple. Look at one 3×3 box: if every remaining cell that could hold a digit lines up in a single row or column, that digit must end up somewhere in that line inside the box — so it can be eliminated from the rest of that row or column outside the box.

Try it

Look at box 3. Let's pencil in what's still possible there, then see why digit 3 is forced into just one line.

Tap each empty cell in box 3, then tap every digit that's still possible there — check what's already used in that cell's row, column and box. Press "Check my work" when you're ready.

Every cell in box 3 that can still hold 3 lines up in row 3. That digit has to go somewhere in box 3 — so wherever it lands, it'll be inside row 3.

Which means 3 can be crossed out everywhere else in row 3.

Tap a highlighted cell, then tap its red digit on the pad below to cross it out — the highlighted cells show why it can't go there.
